March 11 – Pattern and Texture
How do artists get ideas for their beautiful designs of pattern and texture in textiles? Let’s examine the exhibition Art That Speaks: Exploring the Visual Language of African Art for some clues. We’ll be ready to create one-of-a-kind works of art with simple weaving, cutting and gluing techniques.
April 22 – The Art of Confections
Cakes, pies, and candy – oh, my! Look, create, but don’t eat, while we immerse ourselves in images of edible art created by artist Will Cotton. The studio will be a confectionery paradise for small bakers to form, paint, spread, sprinkle and adorn three-dimensional “cupcakes” and more.
May 13 – Explorations in Clay!
After exploring the Art of the Ancient Americas Collection, play in clay to learn a variety of hand building techniques for helping with fine motor skills. Using self-hardening clay gives everyone a chance to work collaboratively to create a Maya temple and individual works of wonder.
June 10 – Paper Play
Ready, set, tear! It’s time to recycle and upcycle newspapers and discarded piles of mail! After exploring the galleries and discussing how paper is made, colored, and used, help create the vat for making paper as we combine science and art in this playful handmade paper experience.
