Feb 04 2016
Art in the Archives Paint Night

Join us for an art in the archives paint night inspired by the Florida Highwaymen. Take a private, after hours tour of the Osceola County History Museum and Solidarity : the Democratization of Media & the Evolution of  Civil Rights temporary exhibit. Art supplies, snacks and sips will be provided.

Exhibit Description: Solidarity: The Evolution of Media and the Civil Rights Movement in Florida examines the role that media played in shaping and informing audiences about the struggle for racial equality in Florida beginning in the 1950s.

Through a compelling assortment of media and historic artifacts, Solidarity traces how images and media disseminated to the public transformed the modern civil rights movement and how evolving social media has impacted the continued efforts of civil rights. Solidarity: in Florida is not a history of the civil rights movement, but rather an exploration of the impact of media on civil rights in Florida since 1950, and how the evolution of information dissemination has influenced how Americans perceive race and equality.
