Bold reveals the courageous adventures of the women who served in WWII as allied secret agents in occupied France.
Orders came directly from Winston Churchill proclaiming, “Set Europe ablaze!” And so, the Special Operations Executive (SOE) was born. The women of the SOE seized their moment in the heat of World War II to fight for freedom. The musical shines a light on their heroism, and the debt we owe them for their service.
The story follows the Dubois, a Jewish family, from Nantes Saint-Nazaire, France. Joseline, a painter and dreamer, is looking forward to studying art at Université, but everything changes when Germany invades. The family attempts to flee the German occupation, but only one member, Joseline, makes it on the boat to Britain. After submitting her drawings of Nantes for military use, she is recruited by a secret organization to complete clandestine operations behind enemy lines. This is the Special Operations Executive, and this is her ticket home.
Bold is an original musical based on real-life stories of courageous women and their paths to becoming extraordinary war heroes. The score features soaring pop melodies, strong hip-hop beats and musical theatre styles. Songs such as “Tomorrow We Rise” and “Keep on Climbing” bring hope for tumultuous political times, and the show culminates with “Liberation” honoring our common humanity across racial and religious lines.
