With this installation, Dierdorrf shines a light on a 2020 charter amendment that passed in Orange County called the Wekiva Econlockhatchee River Bill of Rights or WEBOR. The amendment is part of the growing “Rights of Nature” movement happening across the country and internationally. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet this inspiring artist and see his unique work.

Brooks Dierdorff received his BA from the University of California, San Diego in 2007 and his MFA from the University of Oregon in 2012. Currently he is an Associate Professor of Photography at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida. He is best known for his unique photo-based sculptural installations that have been exhibited in many galleries and museums both nationally and internationally including the Florida Prize in Contemporary Art Exhibition at the Orlando Museum of Art in 2018. His work explores the ways in which media like photography and video shape our cultural imagination of environmental collapse. His practice includes a range of methodologies such as video, the appropriation of images from commercial and archival sources, environmental grief therapy, and site specific installations. This expanded photographic practice offers the viewer new ways to relate and engage with photography by challenging the common interpretation of a photograph as an objective document to be passively received and offering instead a sensorial and emotive relationship with photographs.
