Distilled Simplicity: A Lecture on George Nakashima & the American Shakers
George Nakashima admired and emulated the simplicity of the American Shaker style in furniture. Come join us for a free illustrated lecture with special guest Courtney Martin as she reflects on the comparisons of these two iconic aesthetics of design. The event will include the presentation, a question and answer period, and browsing of the museum.
Courtney Martin is a retired Art and Architecture Librarian. For ten years she taught college level courses in the history of architecture and design at Design Institute of San Diego. Her interest in the Shakers dates from the time she spent in a woodworking shop, where reproductions of antique Shaker were crafted by hand. Courtney now lives in Mount Dora where, quite naturally, she works at the library.
The event is FREE. Please RSVP to the event at (352) 385-0034 or stop by the museum Tuesday - Sunday, 10am - 5pm.
