This remarkable exhibit traces the epic journey of the Kindertransport from 1938 into the 21st century. Immediately after the November 9, 1938 Kristallnacht (“Night of Broken Glass”) pogrom in the German Reich, the Jews of Britain initiated the unique child rescue operation now known as ‘Kindertransport’ and, in the nine months leading up to World War II, brought nearly ten thousand unaccompanied children to safety in Britain. Most of the children, but not all, were Jews; most of the parents who had sent them to safety perished in the Holocaust. The exhibit was produced entirely by those rescued by the Kindertransport – it is not only about, but a product of the Kindertransport Journey. Some saved ship-tickets and other artifacts of the journey in 1939; others contributed stories and photos. The formation of the Kindertransport Association in North America made it possible to realize this idea.
