For several decades now many museums have turned inward to examine their collections and practices considering the critical discourse around how institutions drive mainstream (often exclusionary narratives).

Although there is much more work to be done to do justice to the many women artists whose art has been overlooked, minimized, trivialized, or simply ignored, current trends in the museum world point to an awareness and will to reassess the ways in which institutions collect and present their work. In Our Eyes highlights the work of a selected group of artists from the museum’s permanent collection and focuses on the stories contained in each piece that reveal the artist’s perspective and experience. The selection includes work in various media—from photography and painting, to prints and sculptures—and across centuries, to create engaging dialogues and provoking juxtapositions in the gallery. Among the artists included are Marilyn Minter, Elinor Carucci, Donna Ferrato, Margaret Bourke-White, and Vanessa Bell.

As a teaching museum, the RMA works closely with students and faculty to develop and implement strategic opportunities for engagement. This biennial exhibition is the result of a semester long collaboration with Rollins students enrolled in ARH 404, who work together with museum staff to develop an exhibition from its permanent collection holdings. The exhibition addresses timely issues and considers both historical and innovative museum practices through a critical lens. Topic for this edition to be determined.
