This free family event will kick off the opening of two exhibitions featuring works from the A&H’s permanent collection, Paper Cuts: André Smith Collages and Color Theory. The late founder of the A&H’s Maitland Art Center, Andre Smith, worked across a wide range of media including, collage, sculpture, drawing and painting. These never before shown collage works focus on Smith’s distinctive use of line, subdued color and composition. The Color Theory exhibition focuses on the use of color, and how artists use color to affect mood and individual perceptions. On view will be a range of works across specific subjects, including landscapes, still lifes, interiors, and abstracts from the A&H permanent collection. The opening day, August 1, will be Family Day and offer free admission to the A&H’s Maitland Art Center and hands-on activities for the entire family.
