Bring the whole family to these unique workshops, to explore, play and grow together in creativity!
Join us for these unique Family Summer Saturdays, and explore, play and grow together in creativity! This summer, we’ll discover the elements of Earth, Water, Wind, Fire, and Metal together. Each session includes a 2D project and a 3D fine art project — while providing chances to work on your own, as a family, and as a group! We’ll do some projects that may seem familiar, but quickly begin to experiment — just as the artists did at Maitland Art Center in the past! Families of all ages invited — bring open minds, a willingness to experiment and laugh together! Recommended primarily for elementary school age kids and up.
every other Saturday in June & July 2018, 10am-12pm
Elemental Arts Dates & Projects:
June 2: Earth – Celebrate the start of summer with a great morning together! We’ll explore land art with our urban eco-artist, and add our own lasting elements to the projects using concrete. We’ll also create handmade prints, using nature and earth for our inspiration and impressions.
June 16: Wind – The wind will become our collaborator in our artwork! We’ll make kinetic art, flying art, and paint with air. You won’t want to miss this one! Wild artists encouraged to bring their mad scientists.
June 30: Fire – Who has the most heat? THE SUN! We’re use the sun’s power to make cyanotypes, and to make shadow art as well. Then, as families, we’ll explore the art of encaustics- using melted wax to create abstract masterpieces, suitable for hanging.
July 14: Metal – We’ll shape wire to create line sculptures, emboss copper to make beautiful 2D art, and play with group sculptures and photography. You’ll be surprised by how accomplished your projects will look!
July 28: Water – Water is a summer MUST! We’ll paint in the most unusual ways and make some great memories and art! We’ll also make monotypes, a special kind of printmaking, and celebrate our love of places with water- rivers, lake, oceans, and more! Come dressed to get wet; swim goggles necessary for wild painting!
