Florida Byways with Jules André Smith and the Bok Fellows

Presented by Art & History Museums-Maitland at A&H Maitland Historical Museum, Maitland FL

Ongoing
Florida Byways with Jules André Smith and the Bok Fellows

The exhibition features work from artists who stayed at the Art Center through the 1930’s and 40’s, documenting aspects of life in Maitland’s neighboring byways.

While exploring the surrounding Florida byways such as Eatonville and Sanford, Art Center founder Jules André Smith created watercolors and drawings illustrating parts of Florida that were typically unseen by the casual tourist. His works offer a rare glimpse into everyday life in some of Central Florida’s African American communities during the 1930’s. The exhibition also features work from artists who stayed at the Art Center through the 1930’s and 40’s, documenting aspects of life in Maitland’s neighboring byways.
