Isca Greenfield Sanders

Isca Greenfield-Sanders creates paintings with found, vintage photographs as the starting point for enigmatic landscapes. Often taken from vacation beach photos, she makes several iterations of an image, alters them with pencil and watercolor, and paints them over in oil. The results of the reiterations are obscured fragments of a portrait, landscape, or memory, leading the audience to perhaps reflect on their own leisure time or connections to nature. Isca Greenfield-Sanders’s paintings have been compared to the work of Milton Avery and by extension, Sally Michel for the abstracted colors and tones. And to the arrangement and isolation of Edward Hopper and, by extension, Jo Hopper, both women artists who are a part of our permanent collection.
