Kindertransport, an award-winning play by Diane Samuels, examines the psychological scars left on some of the 10,000 unaccompanied Jewish children who were evacuated to England from Europe between December 1938 and the declaration of war against Germany.
It is a bold play about Jewish identity, the difficult moral choices facing a Jewish parent in the late 1930s in Germany, what it means to “save” your child, and the tender yet frightening history of children uprooted from the families they cherish and sent to lonely, confusing saftey with strangers.
Through its characters, we are challenged to think about the impact of choices we make and those choices made for us, and the bonds of family that complete our stories.
