Let Me Be Myself: The Life Story of Anne Frank

This exhibit tells the story of Anne Frank in a modern way, addressing current day issues of identity, exclusion, and discrimination. Anne’s experiences connect deeply with people as they learn that all actions and words matter.

On display from September 3, 2019 – January 4, 2020, “Let Me Be Myself: The Life Story of Anne Frank” offers an insider’s view of Anne Frank’s life, from her birth in 1929 to her death in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945, at the age of 15. Visitors will learn about the Frank family’s insulated life in hiding juxtaposed against a world in turmoil: the rise of Hitler, the persecution of Jews, and the Second World War.

The exhibit culminates with a section in which today’s teen address issues of identity and discrimination they deal with in their own lives. Through the story of Anne Frank, visitors are encouraged to examine their own attitudes towards others and consider the effects of prejudice, discrimination, hatred, and violence.

“Let Me Be Myself: The Life Story of Anne Frank” was developed by the Anne Frank House and is sponsored in North America by the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect.

This project is made possible by a grant from Duke Energy through United Arts of Central Florida.
