Let Me Be Peace

The Orlando Contemporary Chamber Orchestra 2022 Concert Series Finale featuring our choir VoxOCCO!

Let Me Be Peace features five compositions, four of which are world premieres.  Featuring two Central Florida composers: “Pax? Pax? Pax?” by Marshall Webb is an SATB a capella choral piece, which inspired this concert’s title. In our quest to find peace, Marshall is encouraging us to become the peace. “O quam dulcis” for SATB choir, vibraphone and cello, by UCF Professor and Central Florida Composers Forum composer William Ayers. Inspired by the secular text of Alcuin of York, “O quam dulcis” speaks about how sweet life was when we sat quietly amidst all the ancient books of the sages. “Hope & Quietly Wait” by Paul John Rudoi, is a hauntingly beautiful piece for SATB choir and piano. “Neither death nor life can separate us from the love of God” reminds us to hope and quietly wait on HIm.

Boston based composer Carson Cooman wrote his  Symphony No. 5 for Chamber Orchestra and voices, which was commissioned in 2021.  The piece is about the patterns and connections that we all see in our dreams when we make a concerted effort to remember them.  The voices in the piece represent a human intrusion, or awakening to real life.  Irish born Caroline-Jayne Gleave’s work, “Creation” for Solo Soprano and Chamber Orchestra, is a piece compromising ten short movements representing the evolution of the human spirit from “Survival of the Fittest“ to “Exploring the Land” and ending with the hopeful “Sunrise”.
