DUSK to DAWN: New Works for the Voice & Guitar

Presented by award-winning classical music duo, Deux Saisons

In times of uncertainty, the end of the year offers a moment of change and renewal. This past year could be seen as a period of great political and social upheaval; today could be seen as the dawning of a new Renaissance. DUSK to DAWN: New Works for the Voice & Guitar will feature compositions from 5 composers across the United States, written for the voice and guitar. Contemporary works are diverse and expressive like never before; the combination of singing and classical guitar allows for story telling, an expansive variety of sounds, and a wide range of melodic and harmonic possibilities.

Joining Deux Saisons will be Orlando visual artist, and Timucua’s Artist in Residence for December, Paul Vincenti. DUSK to DAWN will also feature a brand new beer from local brewery Hourglass Brewing. The new brew will be available as an add on to your ticket, or at the brewery starting December 4th. And finally, the classical duo’s guitarist will be debuting his latest album, Neo, which explores music written for the classical guitar during the Modernism art movement.

Please join us for this exciting night of premieres that will stimulate the ears, eyes, nose, mouth and mind.

About the Artists:

A modern take on a classic duo, Deux Saisons presents concerts with diverse collections of old and new classical repertoire. Featuring soprano Keri Lee Pierson, and classical guitarist Christopher Schoelen, this voice and guitar duo performs works that extend from the Renaissance through the present day. Deux Saisons, French for “two seasons”, brings classical music to a wide community through integration into diverse venues (such as farms, libraries, breweries and the main stage), incorporation of audience participation, and application of music as a tool for education and restoration.

Jesse Voogt studied music composition for a year at the ArtEZ conservatoire in the charming city of Zwolle, the Netherlands. Primarily a violinist, much of his work involves stringed instruments, starting with the Sinfonia he wrote for his high school string orchestra. His music ranges from works for solo piano, solo violin, and solo guitar to works for a full orchestra. Besides music, he also studied computer science, has a degree in architecture, and has built a career as a web developer while living in northern Virginia.

Bonnie McLarty’s music has been described as “beautifully written, singable, and rewarding.” Her pieces have won several awards, including the 2019 Cincinnati Camerata Composition Award and the 2017 Robert E. Foster Wind Ensemble Prize. Much of her recent work has focused on collaborating with women poets and local artists. Bonnie earned her D.M.A. in composition from the University of Kansas and a Master’s degree in piano performance from the University of Wyoming. She is currently based in the Kansas City area, where she is a lecturer of music theory at the University of Kansas.

In addition to his academic studies, he is also the president of Collaborations in Contemporary Art (Cica) and teaches freshman and sophomore-level music theory and aural skills. Jacob’s music encompasses wide swaths of techniques and influences ranging from the harmonious to the most thorny of contemporary works.

Hessel’s music has been performed across the United States, as well as in Mexico, Belgium, France, England, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Japan.
