A collaborative two-day event with The Nomadic Photo Ark, a traveling photo dark room trailer, to create portraits and record stories of the local community in Eatonville and Parramore.
The Nomadic Photo Ark will travel to the Central Florida area for an extended artist residency at the Art & History Museums Maitland from Nov 2022 – Jan 2023 to create portraits and record the stories of Eatonville residents as part of photographer Monica Jane Frisell’s ongoing national project, Portrait of US. The artist travels with a converted cargo trailer photo dark room conducting interviews in small communities across the country. The Ark supports all forms of photography with a strong focus on the art of processing and printing black and white images.
In collaboration with Snap! Orlando, Monica’s time in Eatonville will be followed by weekend events in Parramore to take the portraits of local community members in conjunction with Snap!’s CITY UNSEEN Jennifer Desire Public [AR]t augmented reality mural and Interstruct Orlando that sponsored the mural by Artist Maureen Hudas. Residents that have their portrait taken by Frisell will be provided with their own heirloom quality 8×10 black & white print to keep.
