The festival of Nowruz commemorates a centuries old, agrarian custom that over time has been integrated into various cultures and faith traditions. Known most commonly as the Persian New Year, Nowruz is celebrated in many parts of the Middle East and Central and South Asia, particularly among people influenced by Persian and Turkish civilizations. Some countries where people celebrate Nowruz include Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Krygyzstan, Tajikstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
