PROPOSAL
The City of Sanford Public Art Commission is accepting submissions for a mural to enhance the urban environment and further promote tourism and economic potential. The City of Sanford requests submissions for art to transform an ordinary building with high visibility, to enhance the natural beauty of the Riverwalk and its nature. This proposal is for a painted mural on the north surface of the shuffleboard building, located on Seminole Boulevard in Sanford, Florida.
WORK DESCRIPTION
Mural
WORK SIZE
The wall is 66 long and 8 feet tall. The wall location is set off from the street approximately 100 feet.
ELIGIBILITY
This project is open to all artists with prior experience of large murals along with surface preparation.
BUDGET
$10,000
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS & DETAIL
Please submit sketch of proposed mural along with color samples, and a list of wall treatments to be used.
SAMPLE REQUIREMENTS:
Cover letter describing exhibition proposal.
Up to (2) new proposed mural designs. Artists may incorporate local themes and designs, may be landscapes, nature and river wild life, water, flora, pictorial and nature related. Mural should be large scale but simplistic, to be seen from a distance. Artwork shall not contain advertising, religious, sexual, violent, political, or other content unsuitable for a public work of art.
Artist resume including biography, educational background, and exhibition record.
Up to (2) examples of prior and or existing murals.
TIMELINE
Work must be completed within four weeks of start date no later than July 1, 2023.
DELIVERY
All files to be submitted via email to Lisa.Holder@sanfordfl.gov no later than 5:30 pm on April 6, 2023.
SELECTION PROCESS
The City of Sanford Public Art Commission will make a selection based on creativity, and appropriateness. The selected artist will receive $10,000 upon completion of the mural.
NOTIFICATION TO ARTIST
Artists will be notified via email of acceptance or non-acceptance by May 4, 2023.
RECEPTION
A ribbon cutting will be scheduled after completion of the mural.
PUBLICITY
Artist will receive recognition on the wall in addition to the City of Sanford website and any other marketing collateral pertaining to public art such as the City of Sanford Facebook, City Podcast, City of Sanford website, print and digital news media, and other social media outlets. A press release will also be distributed.
SALES
The City of Sanford FL reserves the right to use the mural image for future promotional items.
