Science on Screen: OCTOBER SKY

Enzian Theater is proud to present a series bridging the gap between science and art. Each film will be preceded by a fascinating presentation from a notable expert from the world of science, technology, mathematics, and medicine.

Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Cooper, Chris Owen, and Laura Dern. OCTOBER SKY is based on the true story of Homer H. Hickam, Jr., a coal miner’s son who was inspired by the launch of Sputnik 1 in 1957 to take up rocketry against his father’s wishes, and who eventually became a NASA engineer

The film will be preceded by a presentation from Dr. Patrick Simpkins, Director of Engineering for NASA at the John F. Kennedy Space Center, about what’s new and what’s next for space exploration.
