February 26 – Introduction to Batik with an Indigo Dye Vat
Simple design and pattern techniques will be examined to apply batik wax to fabric with various tools. Complete designs will then be immersed in an Indigo vat and we can watch the magic happen. Each participant is supplied with a scarf to create a beautiful design. Practice fabric samples will be on hand. Expect to leave inspired and ready for more!

March 11 – Storytelling with Photographs
Explore the exhibition Women of Vision: National Geographic Photographers on Assignment to learn how photojournalists help tell stories from around the world. Then, in the studio, explore techniques for photographic storytelling with your own camera or cell phone. Learn about the best apps, as well as ways of putting photos together for self-publishing and sharing. Be prepared, using your own equipment, to visually document an experience with images and text. No photography experience is required to have a great time!

April 22 – Confections in Clay
Who wouldn’t be inspired to whip up some goodies after a look at artist Will Cotton’s paintings and prints that feature confections? We will create mini cakes, cupcakes and other confections with clay, using whipped-to-perfection colored clay icing, clay toppings, and more. After your confections are “baked” in the kiln, they will be ready for pick up in their bake shop box the following week!

May 13 – Hapa-Zome
Explore the art of hammered plant materials on fabric, and printmaking with nature. In this cheerful class, hammer away your frustrations with florals and foliage to make something beautiful to take home. Expect to receive a piece of cotton suitable for a hand towel or to create a simple handy apron and a piece of paper for a work suitable for framing.

June 10 – Handmade Paper and Paper Marbling
Today is all about paper. Learn how to create different papers from materials on hand, including different additives for different effects. Learn vocabulary and techniques as you experience hands-on immersion in creating paper that can be used for art works, art materials and more. One center will be available for those wanting to learn the art of Suminagashi paper marbling, for art paper for envelope liners, card covers, art materials and sharing. Be ready to create with paper!
