This four-day intensive workshop is open to anyone with a willing spirit to explore their creativity. Through a series of interactive group-based exercises, instructor Aradhana Tiwari will introduce participants to Viewpoints theatre. These sessions will strengthen essential performance concepts such as being present, active listening, trust, and spatial awareness as well as develop a foundation for artists forming original material and devising with a shared creative language. Participants will build confidence in a welcoming and safe learning environment. The workshop will be limited to 16 participants. Prior knowledge of Viewpoints is not necessary.
Viewpoints is a theatre technique that provides a vocabulary for thinking about and acting upon movement and gesture. The Viewpoints technique was first created by choreographer Mary Overlie in the 1970s. Director Anne Bogart and the artists of the Saratoga International Theatre Institute (SITI) Company later developed Overlie’s technique for the stage. Since then, this system of improvisation has become a dominant form of actor training in the United States.
Participant Requirements: While prior knowledge of Viewpoints is NOT necessary, this class does demand physical agility, endurance, and conditioning. Please come dressed to move in all black clothes (no jeans, dresses, or skirts). Non-restrictive shorts, tights, yoga pants, or leggings are necessary. The workshop will be conducted in bare feet or in socks.
