Get ready for an NFC West battle as the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks will face off at 8:15 p.m. ET on Monday at Levi’s Stadium. San Francisco is currently enjoying a perfect season and is looking to extend their dominance.
San Francisco came out on top in a nail-biter against the Arizona Cardinals last week, sneaking past 28-25. The overall outcome was to be expected, but Arizona made it more of a contest than the oddsmakers had predicted.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Seattle ultimately got the result they were hoping for. They secured a 40-34 W over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. QB Russell Wilson had a stellar game for the Seahawks as he passed for 378 yards and five TDs on 43 attempts. Wilson ended up with a passer rating of 133.70. Not surprisingly, Wilson’s sharp evening set his single-game touchdown high for the season.
Their wins bumped San Francisco to 8-0 and Seattle to 7-2. Two numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: The 49ers rank second in the league when it comes to passing touchdowns allowed, with only seven on the season. But the Seahawks come into the game boasting the most passing touchdowns in the league at 22. We’ll see which of these strengths — offense or defense — will win out.
The game will feature a battle between a 7-2 team and the league’s lone remaining unbeaten club at 8-0. For each squad, it is easily their biggest test of the year thus far. San Francisco has only played one team worth their salt – the Panthers with a backup quarterback – and the Seahawks have faced similarly weak opponents.
The difference here is the Niners have mostly cruised past any opposition, while Seattle has struggled to even survive against teams like Cincinnati and Tampa Bay.
Yet despite all that, both the Seahawks and the Niners stand ready to duel in easily the most anticipated “Monday Night Football” game in 2019. It is potentially a rebirth of one of the most heated rivalries in recent memory. From 2011-14 the Seahawks and the 49ers were the class of the NFL. Mirror images, every game between the two – including one of the most iconic NFC Championships – was must-see television.
However, San Francisco fell off the cliff in recent years and the Seahawks went on to win 10-straight against their division rivals in the Bay.
Now the 49ers look like they are back and the Week 10 brawl is everything fans could have hoped for by this point. A young San Francisco squad looking to take down hated rivals who continued to enjoy success. A spurned Richard Sherman against his old team. An MVP candidate in Russell Wilson against perhaps the defensive rookie of the year in Nick Bosa.
For all intents and purposes, the 49ers should absolutely win this game. They have looked like one of the NFL’s best, if not the best, all season long. San Francisco is playing the type of football Pete Carroll wants to – bruising ground game and suffocating defense – but with actual success in 2019.
The running game for Seattle has been inconsistent, the secondary continues to be gashed by mediocre-at-best quarterbacks, and the pass rush can’t even get close enough to sniff sacks. The odds are truly stacked against the Seahawks.
