A Documentary Film Screening Event

A Documentary Film Screening Event

Presented by Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center at Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center

Join us for a screening of the film – Why They Kill – an award-winning documentary that explores the violentization process. Why do some men, women, and even children assault and murder? How does a society engage in mass murder and genocide? These age-old questions led to the breakthrough research and theory which explains how violent individuals develop, how violent communities are created and transformed, and how violent acts are committed. This feature documentary will explore the process and stages developed by renowned criminologist, Lonnie Athens, as well as strategies for breaking the cycle of violence and prevent future atrocities.

The film screening will be followed by a Q & A with the filmmakers and UCF lecturer, Dr. Mark Winton where they will discuss how the violentization process can be used to explain how individuals and groups became dangerous violent perpetrators during the Holocaust.

Guest speakers:
Giuseppe M. Fazeri, Ph.D., Director
Alex Agisilaou, Editor
Mark Winton, Ph.D., UCF Lecturer
