Rock Lake Neighborhood Center is a 4,358 sq. ft. facility and adjacent park. The building consists of two meeting rooms (75 persons capacity per room), a computer lab with 10-PC stations, a reading room, restrooms with a shower and a serving kitchen. The park amenities include the following – an large playground, multipurpose field, two tennis courts, two outdoor basketball courts, parking lot, and walking trail.History:On August 5, 2002, the Orlando City Council approved a real estate donation agreement with Orange County Public Schools (OCPS). OCPS donated land behind Rock Lake Elementary School for a new City of Orlando Park. On October 31, 2002, the City of Orlando and OCPS completed a joint use agreement between Rock Lake Elementary School and the City of Orlando’s Families, Parks, and Recreation Department. Rock Lake Elementary School has exclusive use of the basketball courts, playground, and field during school and after-school program hours. The Neighborhood Center, tennis courts, and parking are available for public use during regular hours of operation. The official grand opening event was held on May 21, 2005.Programs:Book Club (ages 6 – 14): Wednesdays 5:30pm-6:30pm, An activity to enhance reading comprehension through hands on reading experiences using an assigned book of the month or week, Concluding with open discusssion among your peers.Computer Lab (ages 8 and up): We offer open lab for research, resume' writing, and homework, Hours for open Lab are Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri 9:00am–2:00pm, Wed, 12:00pm-2:00pm, and Mon–Fri, 5:00pm–7:00pm for adults 18 and over only, Sat, 2:00pm–5:00pm (based on availability), Internet access is available on a limited basis.Girl Scouts: Wed, 5:30pm-7:00pm and Sat, 12:00pm-2:30pm; Offers constructive activities that build skills and character or an appealing alternative to hanging out at the mall, watching television, and experimenting with risky behaviors; Participation is free for girls ages (8 – 11) and (11 – 17).MTP ( Middle-School Teen Program): After school program for teens 11 to 14 years of age to develop worthwhile leadership skills, cultural diversity and supervised activities including homework assistance, access to computer lab, games and physical activities outdoors.OASIS (Orlando After School Is Super) (ages 5 – 10): Supervised activities including homework assistance and access to computer lab, games and physical activities outdoors.Senior Program: (“I-CAN”, ages 55 and up) Mon, Wed,Fri, 9:00am–12:00pm, Program offers activities to promote healthy and active living, fitness, fun and field trips, “I-CAN”, is intergenerational caregiving and assisstance network it mainly focuses on grandparents and other kin raising grandchildren.S T A R R: Saturday’s (ages 6 – 14) every Saturday 10:00am–2:00pm, Youth will participate in sports, tutoring, arts and crafts, and recreation, This is a fun day for youth and volunteers as well as parents to interact while having a good time.
