Harry Messersmith maintains a full-service bronze foundry and sculpture atelier in DeLand and continues to refine his sculpture, which he describes as triangulated figures. He gives the following characterization of his artistic vision. “I have been developing a series of triangulated, figurative, architectural works since 1982. My work addresses the evolution of technology and its positive and negative effects upon the human condition. I strive to express within the human figure sculpture a dynamic sense of balance that I believe must exist between science and spiritual enlightenment in order for civilization to progress with dignity.”

Lake Eola Fountain

The iconic Lake Eola fountain, which is offically named the "Linton E. Allen Memorial Fountain" was first installed in 1912. The fountain has become iconic to downtown Orlando.

Lake Wales High School Band

Category: Mural / Trump L'Oiel

The Lake Wales High School Band and Scottish Unit have always been a source of pride to the entire area. The tragic deaths of Amber Jones and Alena Violette in 2005 brought their friends together to sponsor a lasting memory of these young ladies and to recognize the band. Friends of Amber and Alena raised the funds to cover the cost of the mural and a perpetual scholarship in their names. The mural was dedicated in April of 2006 with a band concert and spaghetti supper with thousands of supporters in attendance. Sponsored by: Friends and family

Lake Wales Lake and Bok Tower Gardens

This mural reflects Lake Wales Lake as it appeared in 1929 when Bok Tower Gardens was dedicated. Painted by lead artist Tom Freeman, with the assistance of his protégé Diane Lescard, this mural was dedicated in the summer of 2005. The parking lot was donated to the city by True Value Hardware after a destructive fire in the summer of 2005. Sponsored by: Local Citizens

Lake Wales Public Library Mural

The reception area of our Lake Wales Public Library is dominated by a huge Tom Freeman mural depicting many animals native to this area and portrayed in their natural environment. From left to right the mural includes the Withlacoochee River, Bok Tower Gardens, the Lake Wales Ridge and the Peace River. This mural was painted in three sections, transported to the library and mounted on the wall. In viewing the mural, one must appreciate the logistics of the endeavor and the result that makes it appear as one huge mural painted in place. The mural was dedicated to the memory of R.T. “Tom” Nelson. Mr. Nelson was active in the LW Library Association and served for many years as the LW City Library Board Chairman This Tom Freeman work has provided the backdrop to many events at the library. The most notable was the appearance of First Lady Barbara Bush in conjunction with a Lake Wales Literacy Council Event. Sponsored by: Lake Wales Library Board

On this painted traffic control box, three children, two girls and a boy hold hands in a circle. This box was painted by a Ferncreek Elementary School teacher and her students.

Little Shirley Temple

Artist Statement: "The majority of these materials were found. I have lugged the TV around ever since my brother Ben bought it when we were in college so we could watch Gladiator every day. I still like that movie. This sculpture took all summer to build by myself and it was very fun. I like to think that art is about exploring your imagination and discovering new things. Covering the entire south wall of Maxine’s Salon & Spa, Andrew’s work required extensive undercoat preparation. Andrew J. Spear was born and raised in Weymouth, Massachusetts and attended the Art Institute of Boston, later transferring to the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota. After traveling the country, he landed in New York City, where his artistic career took off. Spear is now an established mural artist in Orlando.
