A Tribute to Pappy

Two little boys hard to work to transform a citrus crate into a "rally racer" car. This piece is located in the Winter Garden Village Shopping Center and is one of series symbolizing the historic presence of the citrus industry in the everyday life of the people of Winter Garden.

Amazon with Achilles Heel

Category: Outdoor Sculpture

Located in front of the Publix on Central Blvd. The piece references the relationship between the Amazon Queen, Penthesileia, and Achilles during the Trojan War. After killing Penthesileia in battle, Achilles fell in love with her. Some Amazon warriors removed a breast to prepare them for battle, to make way for use of a bow.

Astrogenesis II

Category: Outdoor Sculpture

Rising 30 feet into the sky, Astrogenesis II speaks to the manifestation of energy. Energy spirals throughout the structure enhanced by the arrangement of 12 triangular “florets” that spiral upward toward a spherical form of projections that glisten and quiver with the slightest of air currents and that glows from within at night. Astrogenesis II also evokes aspects of the botanical world. Like a plant reaching and turning toward the light and beyond, it represents a flowering of the possible. Aurora

Category: Outdoor Sculpture

Noelio Gonzalez, born in Camaguey, Cuba, was selected for study at the National Academy, where only a handful of Cubans, and only seven in each arts specialty, are selected to attend. In 1992, he graduated from the National Institute of Arts, and in 1994 came to the US, where his sculpture has been exhibited in countless art exhibitions here and in Europe. His work portrays the spiritual contest for surviving, with every piece representing an energetic form with its own unique abilities and strengths. Noelio currently lives in Orlando, Florida, where he works on bronze casting, welding and paintings. This sculpture is sponsored by Seminole Cultural Arts Council.

Bataan-Corregidor Memorial

A permanent sculpture in Downtown Kissimmee, this memorial commemorates the Filipino and American prisoners of war who were made to participate in the Infamous Bataan Death March. The three life-size figures depict a true moment of the march.

Below the Surface #7

“For many years, all my work has been about the reconciliation of sculpture and ornamentation. ‘Below the Surface #7’ is no exception. Below the surface has a double meaning, at once referring to the aluminum panel itself and what is literally below the surface as it pertains to the ocean, but in a non-literal way. Illusion is also an important element in the work. The modeled deep areas of the relief are meant to look fathomless, and yet are only 3/8" at the deepest point. It was also important to me that the work ‘float’ away from the wall, emphasizing the panel as an object.” - Stephen Robin

Bette Sprinkle Memorial

A bronze statue of the community activist Bette Sprinkle, dubbed the "First Lady of Osceola County," sits on a bench in Toho Square, City of Kissimmee, Florida. Sprinkle who owned and operated Draperies and Interiors by Bette and Lauren for over 30 years in downtown Kissimmee would spend a great deal of her time on the upkeep of the downtown. She would water the flowers and ensure that the downtown corridor was trash free, she has been described as "a one-person beautification committee for the downtown area."

Bike Rack

In this sculpture the words Bike Rack are formed in burnished metal and serve as the actual bike rack. From the corners of the structure extend three renderings of trees, the tops of which almost blend with the trees in Albert Park. The piece was designed by Kim Foy and created by local artist Jim Lakey.

Buck and Babs

Cedar of Lebanon

A reflection of our community’s diversity, strength and elegance, Cedar of Lebanon is a three-story high sculpted tree made from a combination of hand bent sprinkler pipes and mirrored stainless steel canopies that represent the tree’s leaves. The sculpture is lit from within. Cedar of Lebanon represents the natural, earthy elements that can be found throughout Orlando’s vast landscape. SPONSORED BY Khaled Akkawi

Centered

Centered is a bold monumental sculpture made of eight individual forms arching in perfect balance with a kinetic yellow center able to spin in the wind. Because each piece of this sculpture is fabricated in various widths and colors, Centered seems to change its shape from every angle it is viewed. Centered makes reference to how Orlando is the center of family fun, experiences and memories. The yellow form in the center also pays tribute to Orlando’s clear and sunny weather. Cloud Cycle

Lasley's version of a bicycle was crafted from "green metal", the artist's term for found metal objects which are incorporated into this work. You will find this sculpture near the Oakland Outpost on the West Orange Trail. The Oakland Town Hall is located across from the sculpture.

Marcos Cruz was born in Cadiz, Spain, and migrated to the US in 1979. He has lived in Europe and the Caribbean and considers the experience of living in different cultures as a primary influence on his art. His works are inspired by a fascination for how things work and the patterns of everyday life. He is passionate about interacting with the public regarding his art, and claims that his works often speak in the voice of the people. Marcos believes that as we take part in the arts, we strengthen the bonds of culture and community. His works are exhibited all over the world, and he served as the director of design and visual arts consultant for the Culinary Team USA for the World Cup in 2010 and the 2012 Olympics in Europe. Marcos currently lives with his wife Amanda and their four children in Central Florida.

Dan Gunderson is a professor at Stetson University, where he has taught ceramics and design since 1976. He received a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of South Dakota and a master of fine arts degree from the University of Wisconsin.

Three metal figures lean closely together and appear to be having a discreet conversation. This sculpture is the work of Florida metal sculptor Doug Hays. The purchase of this sculpture was made possible by a grant from the Mount Dora Community Trust.

Dreaming of the Kiss

This large frog crouches next to mushrooms waiting patiently. Viewers can imagine a prince inside wiating for the kiss that will set him free. The Frog was purchased by Orange County during Commissioner Butler's time in office. The commissioner was a lover of frogs and this statue is a lasting tribute to her work in District 6.

Eihei

Eihei was named for the Japanese word for protector, pronounced "eye-hee". Eihei is a protector sculpture. Eihei, if he was a human, would be the one you would want at your side for protection. The purchase of this sculpture was made possible by a grant from the McLin Foundation.

Emily Fountain

Emily Fountain, modeled after Polasek's second wife Emily Muska Kubat was presented to the City of Winter Park by the Albin Polasek Foundation on March 11,1984 in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival.

Family of Herons

Keith Carroll brought this “Family of Herons” to life from large dead trees designated to be removed from the back of City Hall at Lake Concord Park. Selected by the Rupp family as a tribute to their late daughter, Tracy, Carroll was chosen based on his previous outstanding works of art that adorn parks and other natural settings throughout the State of Florida. He started his career as a woodcarver over twenty years ago while he was a pastor at a church. Since then, he has created many works of art carved out of dead tree trunks throughout the state as far north as Tallahassee and stretching to the southern tip of Miami. Located at three locations throughout Lake Concord Park, the herons are not only a striking example of “recycled” art, but also a touching example of familial love
